The Fundamentals of Erosion and Sediment Control

Full-Day Workshop

This full day Workshop is useful for anyone who needs an overview and understanding of erosion and sediment control. Learning outcomes include:


1. Understanding of why soil erosion is a significant environmental issue.

2. Appreciation of the legal requirements regarding erosion and sediment control.

3. Improved knowledge of the use and implementation of products and techniques for effective erosion and sediment control.

4. Knowledge of where to find best-practice guidance for erosion and sediment control products and techniques.

5. Understanding of how to minimise the risk of pollution when working in and around waterways.

6. Improved ability to critically assess the compliance of installed controls.

Audience

People who will be responsible for implementing, overseeing or regulating erosion and sediment control onsite as part of their day-to-day work should attend this workshop.

This would include leading hands, project managers, development assessment, team leaders, regulators and engineers. The workshop is designed to be relevant to contractors, planners, engineers, consultants, designers, government staff and regulators.

Andrew Macleod

Director and Principal Scientist, SEEC

Andrew is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), Registered Soil Practitioner – Erosion and Sediment Control (RSP-ESC) and a Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS). He was also President of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) Australasian Chapter for 8 years until 2021.

Training on using and applying stormwater MUSIC modelling guidelines

Full-Day Workshop

This full day Workshop is useful for anyone who needs an overview and understanding of erosion and sediment control. Learning outcomes include:


Melbourne Water released updated MUSIC modelling guidelines in 2024 with a revised guideline for 2025 out for draft consultation with industry. These documents provides guidance and modelling approaches to be adopted by the industry across Melbourne and Victoria.

As the lead author of the updated Guidelines, Dale Browne will provide training on the new guidelines, outlining main changes from this issue.

This training will include a series of presentations followed by question and answer sessions, discussion and selected exercises.

Attendees should bring their own laptop with MUSIC installed.

Dr. Dale Browne

Senior Principal Environmental Engineer, E2Designlab

Dale is an Environmental Engineer with over 20 years professional experience in WSUD and integrated water cycle management. He has practical experience in the project management, design, delivery and maintenance of water sensitive urban design interventions including wetlands, raingardens and stormwater harvesting locally and internationally.

Dale has substantial specialist experience in leading WSUD asset audits and advising on WSUD asset management. He also has experience in WSUD modelling, development of tools and models, model application as well as guidelines and training.

Dr. Juliette Monetti

Senior Consultant, Environmental Engineer, E2Designlab

Juliette is an Environmental Engineer with 10 years of experience in the water sector in Australia and in France.

Juliette is passionate about the environment and integrated water management, and loves sharing her knowledge across potable water, wastewater and stormwater. Since starting with E2Designlab, she has worked with local governments, water authorities and developers. She has advanced technical skills in data analysis and compilation, MUSIC modelling and GIS analysis, and also has experience with WSUD condition audits and developing tools for benefit cost analyses. As a skilled project manager, she maintains close communication with her clients and uses her critical thinking skills and attention to detail to ensure deliverables are highly tailored to the clients’ needs.

Understanding and applying Victoria's stormwater

planning requirements

Half-Day Workshop

This workshop will provide an in depth understanding of planning reforms and how to meet stormwater objectives, DEECA stormwater policy reform priorities, tools to demonstrate compliance and practical solutions. 


This workshop is designed to help planners, engineers, and sustainability officers to understand the relationship between urban development and water management. 


The scope will cover planning controls for different develop types, updates associated with the recent housing

statement reforms and GED, practical examples and case studies, resources to support industry practice. We will also discuss the importance of stormwater management in construction and operational phase of urban development

Attendees should bring their own laptop.

Group Lead, Living lands and Waters, E2Designlab

Sara is widely recognised across industry for her contribution to driving change across urban water

management practices. Prior to the introduction of Amendment VC154 Sara facilitated industry consultation and feedback on the proposed policy changes and today continues to support industry to embed the urban design and IWMsolutions into development.

Kate Matthews

Associate Planner, Tract Consultants

Kate is an Associate planner at Tract Consultants, having previously worked in statutory and strategic

planning roles in local and state government. She brings a strong working knowledge of stormwater policy implementation through the planning system, stormwater management policy, modelling and asset design through her previous roles at Melbourne Water and Cardno.

Mandy Bolton

Senior Policy Advisor,  DEECA

Mandy Bolton is a Senior Policy Advisor within DEECA working on urban water programs to support the

government's objectives for resilient and liveable cities and towns. The program recognises the importance of managing stormwater for greener environments and healthier waterways.
