Just a relaxed two-hour drive from Melbourne along the iconic Great Ocean Road lies Lorne—a tranquil and picturesque coastal town that has long been a favourite getaway for Victorians.
Mantra Lorne
At the heart of Lorne is Mountjoy Parade, the town’s vibrant main street, dotted with inviting cafés and charming boutique shops. This lively strip exudes a Mediterranean charm, enhanced by the wide foreshore that stretches from the bustling café scene to the soft, white sands of the patrolled beach. Spanning two kilometres, Lorne’s beach is ideal for swimming during the warmer months and is flanked by grassy lawns, towering gum trees, and well-equipped picnic and barbecue spots.
Journey along the Great Ocean Road—celebrated as one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world—leading to the awe-inspiring 12 Apostles. For panoramic views of the coastline and lush hinterland, make your way to Teddy’s Lookout at the southern end of George Street.
Nature lovers will also relish a visit to the nearby Otway National Park. Whether you prefer hiking, cycling, or four-wheel driving, the park offers countless ways to immerse yourself in its natural splendour. Don’t miss the majestic Erskine Falls, where water tumbles into a lush fern-filled gully, creating a truly breathtaking sight.
HOW TO GET THERE:
By Car from Melbourne:
If you’re driving from Melbourne, head down the M1 (Princes Freeway) to Geelong, then follow the signs for the Great Ocean Road (B100). This stunning coastal drive leads straight into Lorne. It usually takes a little under two hours, but give yourself extra time — you’ll want to stop and take in the views!
Public Transport:
Train to Geelong: Take a V/Line train from Southern Cross Station (Melbourne) to Geelong — this service runs frequently during the day.
Bus to Lorne: From Geelong Station, transfer to a V/Line coach (operated by McHarry’s) going to Apollo Bay via Lorne. Get off at the “Lorne Visitor Centre / Great Ocean Rd” stop, which is a short walk (around 3 minutes, depending on your final destination) to Mantra Lorne.
WHERE TO PARK?
Mantra Lorne offers complimentary on‑site parking facilities for all overnight guests, including those attending events or conferences. Additional off‑site street parking is also available nearby, providing flexible parking options for visitors.
